Hi, I've started taking my 3 cats for all their care needs to the San Frangisk Animal Welfare Centre at Ta Qali. They're excellent, organised, and 24/7 plus an animal hospital. All the professionals and staff are friendly, helpful, supportive and caring. I feel it pays to support their organisation and to be assured of having emergency as well as planned care when it's needed. They do clip nails, whereas I've found a number of vets will not, and what is better is that my pets are not stressed when being treated for this by the vet, but the groomer's visits really stressed them. So The Welfare Centre gets my vote all round.

To Mrs Thompson in Libya, I think you’ll have to contact the animal immigration in Malta to find out about quarantine regulations between Libya and Malta. They’re on the website http://www.vafd.gov.mt/pet-travel-scheme?l=1. I don’t think Libya is there, but there is a phone number to call for information.

To Doreen, I don’t think pet insurance does exist in Malta, but operations are often far cheaper than in the UK so it sort of compensates for not having insurance.

Hello, would anyone know of a vet that takes care of sugar glider? I have been phoning in many clinics, but with no result. It would be very nice if anyone could help me out with this. Thanks.

Hello, can anyone give me a contact number of a vet that does home visits please, I need a vet for my cat, and all clinics I'm calling do not do home visits, and its kind of difficult to take my cat to a clinic. Thanks.

Hi, I live in Zejtun and I'm looking to see if there are any vets in the area or at least learn where the closest ones are, just in case one day I may come in need of them for my cats. I wouldn't want that day to come and I'm stuck wondering what the hell to do. I don't have a car, so access to places would either have to be by bus or walk.

Hi Errol and Rita,

I have a parrot too, so far did not need any vets yet and hope it stays so (fingers crossed). Did a quick Google search and apparently there is an avian vet called Luke Sultana, more details at http://www.animal-doctors.net/page3.htm. You may want to pay him a visit and let us know the outcome.

Regards,
Ken

I would like to find out about quarantine regulations in Malta. I have a Siamese cat and live in Libya. She has Gingivitis and has had this problem for the last year. The treatment she has had is antibiotics and anti inflammatory injections which work for a week and then the problem returns. She also has had three teeth removed but they don’t have the equipment to remove all the teeth. I would like to bring her to Malta for treatment and I would be grateful for some advice.

Hi all,

After 2 months of not seeing my baby dog I've picked her up from the airport, but she has to stay for 30 days in Quarantine. Sadly, because the vet (the dog came from Greece) made some mistakes with the vaccination and etc. At the end I could not take my dog with me, needed to leave her there and paid him €435, to take care of her plus also all the examinations and tests which he charged me another €200.

I'm glad now, that she is here, or at least on the island. But as we are moving a lot, I would like to have a vet who knows ALL REGULATIONS! I had a bad experience in Greece with this vet, he did not know anything, ending up checking on the internet and show him all the things he needed to do. Of course, this costs more time, more money and so on.

This time I need a GOOD vet, one who knows WHAT he is doing. I am living in St. Paul's Bay, who is the closest? Thank you very much.

P.S: Had anyone needed to leave his/her dog in quarantine, how did your dog behave after that? My baby still knows who I am and she is so happy when she sees me. I just wish she will be home soon!
