Isle of MTV 2011

Isle of MTV MaltaNow in its 9th year, the Isle of MTV is probably the most anticipated event of the year in Malta. Previously held in Italy, Portugal, France and Spain, 2011 will see the free music festival return to Malta for its 5th year. It has brought to the island the likes of Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, Enrique Iglesias, Kid Rock, Kelis and Marron 5 to name just a few.

The event is held at Il-Fosos (the Granaries) in Floriana, right next to the capital city, Valletta, making the venue one of the island’s easiest spots to reach via public transport.

Reggae in Malta

Reggae MaltaThere is a small but thriving reggae scene in Malta, and this community is closely connected, organising parties, events and concerts.

One of the most popular Reggae acts in Malta is Mind’s Eye Dub – M.E.D. The man behind it is David Magro who was born in Malta in 1969, and M.E.D. was conceived back in the 1980’s.

In 1988, he and his band staged the Bob Marley tribute concert which was really well attended and acclaimed by the public and local reggae DJ, Manwel Tabone.

Casinos in Malta

Casinos in MaltaMalta is home to a number of Casinos, both of the bricks and mortar and online varieties – in fact, Malta is one of the most popular countries, globally, that iGaming companies call home with over 300 based there in 2010, including InterCasino, CasinoEuro and VIP Casino.

There are four main traditional casinos with gaming tables, slot machines and other entertainment. There is an age restriction of 25 for Maltese Citizens and 18 for other nationalities.

Gay Bars Malta

Gay Bars MaltaAs in most European countries, there is a gay scene in Malta. With Malta being a small country though, there isn’t a huge selection of LGBT specific venues, but there is a small but thriving gay community made up of both Maltese and foreign residents. With Malta being a popular tourist destination, there is a wide selection of clubs and bars in the Paceville & St Julians area, but only a few cater specifically to gay customers and their friends.

The oldest gay bar in Malta is Tom bar in Floriana, a suburb of Valletta. Situated on Crucifix Hill, the bar has recently been refurbished and has two floors.

Gentlemen’s Clubs Malta

Gentlemen's Clubs in MaltaGentlemen’s clubs are also known as lap-dancing bars, strip clubs or pole-dancing venues and there are a good number of these in Malta today. Historically, when the British forces were based here, Valletta’s Strait Street was a hive of activity for strip clubs and other adult activities – it was world-renowned back then. Today, the venue has changed and has been somewhat upgraded, and a number of adult clubs are found mainly in Paceville, but there are also some popular clubs further out in Bugibba and Sliema. These clubs generally are free to enter, serve drinks and have a strict age restriction – adults only.
