Now in its 9th year, the Isle of MTV is probably the most anticipated event of the year in Malta. Previously held in Italy, Portugal, France and Spain, 2011 will see the free music festival return to Malta for its 5th year. It has brought to the island the likes of Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, Enrique Iglesias, Kid Rock, Kelis and Marron 5 to name just a few.
The event is held at Il-Fosos (the Granaries) in Floriana, right next to the capital city, Valletta, making the venue one of the island’s easiest spots to reach via public transport.
There is a small but thriving reggae scene in Malta, and this community is closely connected, organising parties, events and concerts.
Malta is home to a number of Casinos, both of the bricks and mortar and online varieties – in fact, Malta is one of the most popular countries, globally, that iGaming companies call home with over 300 based there in 2010, including InterCasino, CasinoEuro and VIP Casino.
As in most European countries, there is a gay scene in Malta. With Malta being a small country though, there isn’t a huge selection of LGBT specific venues, but there is a small but thriving gay community made up of both Maltese and foreign residents. With Malta being a popular tourist destination, there is a wide selection of clubs and bars in the Paceville & St Julians area, but only a few cater specifically to gay customers and their friends.
