Isle of MTV Malta 2010
In summer 2007, MTV brought its popular “Isle of MTV” event to Malta for the first-time, and this is something that has continued to be a highlight of every summer since.
Isle of MTV is a club tour culminating in a live show for up to several thousand people held outdoors at The Granaries, Floriana, just by the entrance to the capital city, Valletta. It’s THE event of the summer, with many non-Maltese flying in from abroad especially for the concert. The show is completely free and the audience is encouraged to use public transport to get to and from the event.
The 2007 show was on the 26th July and included live performances from Akon, Maroon 5 and Enrique Iglesias, with Ira Losco representing local Maltese talent.
The 2008 event brought The Kooks, OneRepublic, N*E*R*D, Lady Gaga and Enrique Iglesias to the island for an even bigger concert than that held the previous year.
In 2009, the Isle of MTV concert was held on 8th July and The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Metro Station and Esmée Denters headlined. Over 50,000 people watched the concert live at the venue.
Now in its fourth consecutive year, the 2010 event has been confirmed for Wednesday 30th June and will be staged, once again, in Floriana. The line-up has yet to be confirmed, but Malta is buzzing with rumours about who’ll be taking part.
The Isle of MTV concert is broadcast as an hour-long special across Europe on MTV. Held in collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority, free tickets are available . This sort of publicity for the country is opening up Malta as a hot destination for a younger audience who want to party in the Mediterranean heat. In the week running up to the concert club nights and beach parties are held as part of Malta Music Week, with top International DJs, such as Roger Sanchez, taking over the decks.
MTV is available in Malta on both Go and Melita’s channel line-up. For premium subscribers, there are a total of 5 MTV channels: MTV, MTV Two, MTV Hits, MTV Dance and MTV Music.
Updated 13th May 2010 – This year’s line-up include Kelis, Kid Rock, Scissors Sisters and another great artist who is yet to be announced.

He is very popular nowadays even on Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and numerous blogs are writing about or streaming the music of Justin Bieber. How about the Jackson 5? Given that they are the brothers of the late Michael Jackson it would be a wonderful way to celebrate the year into his demise, he is much loved all over the world and would attract hundreds of fans to our Island.

Hi! It would be breathtakingly spectacular if you bring The Script to this year’s Isle of MTV … I would simply LOVE to see them perform live! Moreover their music is so unique and widely known. Not to mention that they are Irish and I know many Irish people who like to visit our islands.

Personally I don’t like these two acts that are coming, but I REALLY do hope that the other 2 or 3 acts are going to be great artists.

I would like to know if i can get two VIP tickets for the Festival, one for me and one for my manager. I would like to attend Isle of MTV 2010 and perform some magic for you guys in the VIP areas. I perform high level close up magic similar to what David Blaine does. In the past I have worked with celebrities such as Lemar, Backstreet Boys, Scouting for Girls and many other TV stars from shows such as Skins, Hollyoaks and Shameless… Of course there will be no charge for my performances. I am currently living in San Gwann since yesterday as I am over this way filming a new DVD.

Seriously? Justin Beiber? Grow up people. Anyone who thinks that his “music” is “music” is either aged 10 – 14 or not very clever! We’d like serious bands. Look at the line ups for Glasto or Hyde Park Calling … that’s what we want … Pearl Jam, Jamiroquai, Snoop, Jay Z, Amy Winehouse or even better (but will never happen) U2, Rolling Stones or Fleetwood Mac. Lets stop being seen as an island with bad taste in music and one that thinks the Eurovision is something other then shocking…
