Being a country where tourism forms a major part of the economy, Malta has a number of popular attractions for visitors, with something for everyone: history buffs; children; teenagers and those just in search of rest and relaxation.
June in Malta marks the official start of summer, with hot, sunny days melting into warm evenings; ideal for al-fresco dining in a restaurant or cafe by the sea. By the beginning of June, the spring rains have normally subsided and the month marks the start of the dry season. In the Mediterranean region the summers are hot and generally, there is very little rainfall between now and the end of August.
In the summer months, travelling to Malta’s smaller and more rural sister island, Gozo, is a really popular trip for both tourists and residents. Some people go over just for the day, others to spend a few nights there either in a hotel, apartment or farmhouse.
Tigne Point in Sliema was the site of British-era military barracks, which fell into disrepair in 1979 when the forces left Malta. Earmarked for development, the structures were demolished in 2001 and since then the site has been developed in to a multi-purpose destination for shopping, living, work and leisure.
