Mater Dei Hospital Malta

Mater Dei Hospital MaltaAfter much controversy, delays and overspending, Mater Dei hospital finally replaced the old and dodgy St. Luke’s hospital in June 2007 with the last of the personnel having migrated by November of the same year. The cost of the project had been initially predicted to be around 116m Euro, however the end cost reached over half a billion Euro in total.

Malta’s health care is provided for free (well not exactly for free, just from the tax payers money) by the state and over 80% of the Maltese population makes use of it.

Lidl Supermarket

Lidl Supermarket in MaltaStarting off in Germany as a grocery store in 1930’s Lidl is now one of the leading names in European Supermarkets. Their aim is to sell top quality products at the cheapest possible prices while at the same time being environmentally conscious too. In fact all Lidl fish products are MSC Certified, meaning that they do their utmost to protect the worlds marine resources.

Since setting up store in Malta a few years back, five stores have already been opened in different localities: St. Venera, San Gwann, Luqa, Safi and the latest addition in Zejtun.

Malta Beaches

One of Malta beachesThe actual summer season may soon be officially over but who says that we must stop going to the beach? The water temperature remains bearable well into November and for the braver ones even December. Plus once the children all go back to school (most start on the 28th September, mark it on your calendars) and the number of tourists decline Malta’s beaches become even more appealing and much more peaceful.

If sandy beaches are your thing, the North of Malta will definitely suit you more as most of Malta’s sandy beaches are found in this area.

Restaurants in Marsaxlokk & St Julians

Fish plate in a typical Marsaxlokk restaurantMarsaxlokk is a typical Maltese fishing village situated in the South of Malta. An outside market is held there on a daily basis where you can also buy freshly caught fish and seafood.

The coast is littered with authentic fish restaurants offering all sorts of warm and cold fish and shellfish dishes. Prices in this area are reasonable but if ordering fresh fish always ask for the price before. You can have a look at their menus outside but they all pretty much offer the same type of dishes. However do have a look as they also show the prices, which vary from one establishment to another.

Lawrence Gonzi

Lawrence Gonzi Malta BlogLawrence Gonzi born in Valletta on the 1st July 1953 is the current Prime Minister of the Maltese islands and the leader of the Maltese Nationalist Party.

Gonzi was educated at St. Joseph School, St. Aloysious College, The Archbishop’s Seminary and in 1975 graduated from the University of Malta as a lawyer. He practiced law in a private firm and later with the Mizzi Organisation as a company lawyer and as Group Chairman.
