Retirement Age in MaltaRetirement from the workforce and pensions are hot topics globally at the moment – not just in Malta, but changes to the state retirement age are afoot on this small Mediterranean Island. It’s a matter of personal choice and circumstances that affect an individual’s retirement age, but the earlier you retire, the more funds you will need as the money will need to last longer. The State Pension age in Malta is currently 61 for men and 60 for women. Due to an ageing population and an increase in life expectancy combined with a falling birthrate over recent years, the retirement age is set to increase to 65 in the future, for both males and females.

Malta Eurovision 2011 Finalists

Kelly Schembri at Malta Eurovision Song FestivalThe Eurovision Song Contest this year will be hald in Dusseldorf, Germany from May 10th to 14th, and there will be 43 countries taking part. Last year’s winner was Lena Meyer-Landrut singing “Sattelite”; Malta’s entrant in 2010, Thea Garrett, unfortunately wasn’t selected to go through to the final.

24 acts are going to be battling it out to represent Malta this year, and amongst them are previous representative Fabrizio Faniello, and other well-known local performers such as Petra Zammit, Klinsmann Coleiro, J. Anvil and Claudia Faniello.

Wild Camping in Malta

Wild Camping in MaltaGetting away from it all is quite difficult on a small island the size of Malta, boasting one of the highest population densities in the world. With a Mediterranean climate, outdoor activities are enjoyed by many – locals and tourists alike. Getting off the beaten track is possible in Malta, and camping in the wild is one way to do it.

There are several popular locations throughout Malta and Gozo, but facilities are few and far between, so if you’re going camping, it’s best to be prepared.

Christmas in Malta

Christmas in Malta (Photo)The Christmas holiday period in Malta is a time of great festivity, with a feeling of celebration felt right across the islands.

Brightly decorated cribs (Maltese presepju) glowing with fairy lights appear in the windows of almost every house, and some houses are decorated with climbing Santas, neon stars and even sleighs and reindee. Such scenes provide tourists with plenty photo opportunities, in fact holidaymakers often return to Malta time and time again at Christmas.
